A Quiet Trip

I just started another trip on the liveaboard ship and bumped into skipper Wade in the wheelhouse.

'Will you be the trip director?' asked Wade.

'It's not necessary for me to be the trip director. Tina is the trip director.' I answered with caution. I still recalled that he had commanded me to release the duty of trip director in the last trip.

'She is an excellent instructor, but not a good trip director.' Wade said.

'Well, it's up to her.' I tried to be vague. I was not sure what had happened, but he seemed to want me to take over the duty of trip director. I did not want to turn the skipper down, but I did not want to upset a senior instructor, either. Besides, I had not recovered from a week long cold. I needed a rest.

Wade finished his trip in the next morning. New skipper did not know me, so this potential political issue had never been brought up again. Tina tended to do everything on her own, and we had only a few passengers. So, I did not have much work but running the dive deck. It had been a quiet trip.

As usual, every evening I checked how many passengers were coming in the next morning. I could prepare the dive deck in advance.

The passenger list was so long that there were no enough diving equipment on board. New trip director Lucas had to negotiate to borrow more equipment. I was lucky that I was finishing my trip tomorrow afternoon.

In the next morning, I packed up my bag, pull out the bed sheet and pillow case, and enjoyed a nice breakfast. Lucas suddenly came to see me while he was still talking on the phone.

'Can you stay? An instructor is sick and cannot come.' Lucas asked for help.

I hesitated. I really wanted to go home because I was sick as well. But, he needed an instructor for one day until another instructor came the day after tomorrow.

'Alright, just one night.' I agreed.

At the end of this quiet trip, I made myself busy again.
