I could almost hear her shouting through the email. She was thrilled about the commission, but I was the one caught off guard—I didn’t expect the seller to accept so quickly. The surprise quickly turned into real happiness. After wandering around Japan like a homeless person for 4 years, I finally had a place to call home.
A week earlier, when we were preparing to negotiate the price, she had asked, “How much are you thinking?”
“The listing price of N7.5 million yen is too high. Based on the percentage increase from the recent sale, it should be no more than N2 million yen,” I replied.
“A real estate company offered N0.4 million yen. Also, another unit on the 12th floor was quickly sold for N6.8 million yen. I think the seller is more likely to accept around N5 million yen. Maybe… we can start with N4… or N3.5 million yen?” she suggested.
“Alright, I’ll offer N3.5 million yen,” I said.
